Library Referendum - The Citizens Tool
On Tuesday, August 30th, the Talbot County Council passed the capital
expenditure bill 987 which in essence allows the council to move
forward with the new library on North Harrison Street and other
government building renovations. Make no mistake, folks, this bill
is about where our county will place a new library and what that
library will be.
This issue has been in the forefront of our community for the past
year and a half or more. It's time for all of us to bow to the will
of our voters on this controversial issue. It is time for the voters
to decide this issue with a referendum. Whether you want a new library
on North Harrison, want an improved library at it's present location,
or see no need for any changes to our present library, I believe
all of us can make that choice at the polls next year. It's too
important of a decision and the voters need to weigh in.
A petition, supported by the Talbot County Tax Payers Association
calling for a referendum vote, up or down, for Talbot County bill
987 will be available approximately September 12th(exactly one year
before our primaries). At that time you will be able to find the
petitions at Albright's Gun Shop on East Dover Street, Laser Letters
on North Washington Street and Legal Spirits Tavern on East Dover
Street across from the Tidewater Inn. Other persons or organizations
who wish to help the people of Talbot County have a say in the future
of their library and the landscape of downtown Easton, can contact
any or all of the above mentioned establishments. Referendum is
the right, and tool for all citizens. I support this referendum
and encourage all registered voters, be you democrat, republican,
independent or undeclared, to sign this petition and place this
extremely important decision on our ballot.
